MORE SIGNS FROM THE UNIVERSE
All the way to the theater she whisped to me. "Who do you think you are? You're a loser. You're a geek. You're weak and uncoordinated. You can't do this. You will fail. You cannot run a marathon." She was laughing. She was laughing pretty hard. "Also, you're stupid, you're ugly and nobody likes you."
Sometimes I don't know why I spend time with her – with possible exception of the fact that she lives in my head. Until I can figure out how to evict her, I have had to learn to live with her. To be fair, there are days when she pushes me to do better. This was not one of those days.
On this day, she was winning. I was feeling utterly defeated. Walking to a Wendy Wasserstein play, all dressed up as a cute, artsy, professional woman with her ducks sorted in fabulous rows, I was tearing-up behind my Ray-Bans. I arrived at Signature Theater a puddle of a human, hoping to disappear into a pre-show Diet Coke -- or maybe a gin and tonic.
But outside the theater I found my next sign -- in an actual sign. An ad for their upcoming production:

I know right?
Creepy. In the best sense of the word. I am choosing to believe someone was telling me I can. I think I'll listen to her for a while instead.
